Best Places To Live

We been looking through MONEY Magazine's Best Places to Live - looks like the "secret" is out about Boise. I'm sure it's no longer the big little small town it was when I lived at Mountain Home. Boise may not be the town for us - we are looking to move away from traffic jams. As far as wages, we're not looking for 6 figures (but sure wouldn't turn it down) but we don't want to have to live paycheck to paycheck.

One blogger's comment stood out - "Idaho is still a very conservative state." We like that! Another one that fits us too "Idahoans love their guns and hunting."

Resumes

Our resumes have been added. Here is a brief synopsis of our skills:

Jeff currently working as a Receiving Clerk at EWTN he is responsible for performing a variety of functions which involve any activities dealing with the pulling, filling, packaging, and mailing of orders. His previous job was as a Business Manager for a residential remodeling company located in Homewood, AL specializing in high-end home remodeling and renovations in the Mountain Brook, AL and surrounding communities. As the number two man in the company, his ability to manage the office and business enabled the owner to spend one a month a year working as a hunting guide in Alaska without having to shut the company down in his absence. Wages

Another key issue that needs to be researched is wages. Will we be able to find competitive wages to entice of to Idaho? Are our salary requirements in line with what we should expect to find in Idaho? More research will need to be done on cost of living and salaries. Any good links to resources would be appreciated.

Checklists

We will need to start a checklist of items to research for this type of move. A couple of things that come to mind after employment are housing and high-speed internet access. High-speed internet access is a must have when working from home as a freelance web developer/designer/integrator.

As for housing, a nice three bedroom with a 2 car garage. I can't remember if the housing in Idaho had basements, but a basement would be good too.

More specific details to follow - need to get back to working on the two resumes. Jeff reminded me to make sure his has the various types of forklifts he can operate.

How This Started

The idea of moving to Idaho has been evolving over time. After a frustrating day in Birmingham, Alabama the usual comment would be "let's move to Montana." Okay, that's not Idaho. So how did it become Idaho? One day Jeff was looking at an Idaho map and found Leslie, Idaho. I've been doing a minimal amount of Googling for Idaho information. The first link that really stuck with me was Relocate to Kooskia, Idaho - "Tired of the rat-race? Looking for a more relaxed life-style?" Gee, where these folks reading my mind? I showed the site to my husband - not sure what caught his eye but he asked me "When do we move?"

I think it was that comment that made me really start considering the idea. Now to start looking at all the pros & cons, getting our resumes linked up and maybe seeing if someone out there might be interested in coming to Idaho to live and work there.
